Local Activities

Abruzzo is known as The Garden of Italy, and is one of the least populated regions. A holiday in Abruzzo offers a taste of the unspoiled Italy - 15 minutes to the sandy beach of Le Morge in the summer, and only 40 minutes to the mountains for skiing in the winter.
Large areas of western Abruzzo are protected national parks. There is the Parco Nazionale del Gran Sasso, the Parco Nazionale della Majella and the Parco Regionale Sirente Velino. The south-west of the region, where Abruzzo meets Lazio, is covered by the Parco Nazionale d'Abruzzo.
There is an excellent coastline and beaches, with good sandy shores to the north, and rockier coastline to the south. With good stretches of sand, night clubs and the modern marina at Pescara, this part of the coastline differs dramatically with the southern stretches around Ortona, Vasto and Termoli. In the south you'll find little fishing villages still follow their old trade from little fishing huts raised on piles.
Abruzzo also has a superb and very distinctive cuisine. Meals include maccheroni all chitarra and scrippelle'mbuse, thin pancakes sprinkled with sheep's milk cheese and cinnamon. Timballi are savoury rice or pasta baked in moulds.
