Property Description

La Casa Vicino della Chiesa is situated in the historical centre of the village which is within the boundaries of a designated national park. The house comprises of a modern kitchen/lounge with two sofas. Upstairs there is a large bedroom with a comfortable king size bed two foldaway beds and a baby's cot.
The areas National Parks is a walkers? paradise and has a wealth of beauty spots and historical sites to explore. Visit beautiful Sulmona the birthplace of the classical poet Ovid with its piazze and confetti made from sugar coated almonds. There are many regional specialities which can be sampled at local markets and enjoy the many excellent but reasonably priced restaurants.
The Adriatic coast is forty-five minutes drive, in winter the house makes an ideal base for an inexpensive ski holiday with the extensive slopes of Roccaraso and neighbouring resorts less than thirty five minutes drive away.

Local Activities

Peligna Valley
Roccacasale is ideally placed to enjoy the outdoor delights of walking and sightseeing.
Visit www.roccaraso.net to check on the nearby ski area. During the Summer months there is an Aqua Park open less than ten minutes drive. Mountain Biking, Kayaking and Horse Riding are all available nearby.
There are numerous delightful villages to visit, many with their own picturesque castles, such as Pacentro and Capestrano. Many villages hold their own food festivals in the autumn.
The main town of Sulmona is famous for its ?confetti?, sugar-coated almonds and also hosts an amazing medieval jousting tournament in the Piazza Maggiore at the end of July and the beginning of August. The birthplace of the poet Ovid is a wonderful town to explore on foot with its museums, shops, restaurants and bars. www.youtube.com/watch

Other sight-seeing excursions include the animal sanctuary and wolf museum near Popoli, the beautiful mountain lake and village of Scanno, the underground caves of Stiffe, www.grottestiffe.it/ and the incredible Castrovalva, which perched high on a mountain ridge, inspired the drawings of Escher.

Abruzzo region

Abruzzo rivals Umbria and Tuscany for spectacular mountain scenery, medieval hilltop villages and historical sites yet is largely undiscovered by tourists. The landscape ranges from the high snow-covered peaks of the Gran Sasso, the highest peak in the Appenines to the sandy beaches of the Adriatic. There are 29 Blue flag beaches in the region. This truly authentic part of Italy has been made accessible by the modern Pescara-Rome motorway and more recently by Ryanair?s regular flights from Stansted to Pescara. Rome Ciampino airport has flights from Liverpool, East Midlands, Bristol, Newcastle and Stanstead

A Little Further Afield

A trip to the Eternal City, Rome is under two hours away by road, coach or train. On the way there is the Villa d'Este, summer home of renaissance popes and Villa Adriana built for the Emperor Hadrian near the town of Tivoli, two world heritage sites.

The legendary Monastry of Monte Cassino is only 80 miles away with stunning scenery all the way.

Less than three hours drive will take you to the Bay of Naples, the Royal Palace of Casserta, Mount Vesuvius and ancient city of Pompei.
