Local Activities

Coast/Beach
Whilst Switzerland is of course land-locked, it does have a plethora of beautiful lakes within half an hour's drive. The Swiss lakes make the perfect location for a summer picnic or a refreshing swim.

Golf
There are half a dozen courses located with an hour’s driving time of Veysonanaz. Four of these, at Verbier, Crans Montana (where the European Masters – part of the European tour – takes place every September), Leuk Seuston and Sion are 18 hole courses, the latter remaining open for almost the entire year. For those preferring a shorter game, Sierre and Crans-sur-Sierre boast nine hole courses, as do Matterhorn, Source du Rhone and Riederalp if you are prepared to travel that little bit further.

Skiing
Veysonnaz offers something for the novice and experienced skier alike. The season runs from a few weeks before Christmas until the middle of April. The most famous run, ‘The path of the bear’ (Piste de L’Ours) is a frequent location for Alpine Ski World Cup competition, and across the four valleys are a total of 100 runs, the majority red, but a quarter are blue and the remaining five are black. Ample gondolas, chair lifts and surface lifts get you to the top of the runs with ease, whilst the use of snow cannons ensure the runs will be in great condition for you when you get there. It is possible to ski to Verbier in less than an hour, taking in the spectacular glacier at Mont Fort along the way. For those interested in alternative snow pursuits there are specific runs for snowboarding, and also routes for snow shoe treks. As you would expect the town offers a full range of facilities for ski/snow board hire, lessons and ski-locker facilities.

Special interest holidays
Summer in the Alps is fantastic for anyone who enjoys walking or cycling, offering you the chance to make your own way around the 300km of well-signposted paths and trails. For the younger holidaymaker there is plenty do as well. Various activities are organized throughout the summer for children aged four and over, with two different age-group ranges varying the scope of what is available. For the 4-8 yr olds the focus is on theme days and activities such as donkey riding. For the older children and for adults more active pursuits such as archery, mountain bike tours, football and tennis are all available.

Other Information

The unspoilt family village of Veysonnaz is situated at 1400metres (feet) high above the Rhone valley. Perched high on the mountainside it offers panoramic views of the Rhone valley and surrounding mountains. As part of the four valleys, Veysonnaz boasts one of the largest ski areas in Europe with over 400kms of piste and 100 lifts to elevate to the mountaintops. From Veysonnaz you can ski to the world famous resort of Verbier in less than 90 minutes. In the summer this huge ski area becomes a massive mountain top parkland with 300 kms of sign posted walks. The village facilities include several restaurants, bars and a supermarket plus a swimming pool and wellness centre. With little traffic it is a safe environment for children to explore and do the early morning baguette shop for breakfast. Sion, the oldest town in Switzerland, is just 20 minutes away, which hosts many attractions including a priory, fort, Europe’s largest underground lake, historic cobbled streets with a myriad of restaurants and shops as well as a weekly market.
