Local Activities

The Rhone / French Alps / Haute-Savoie region
Saint-Gervais - 850 m
Saint-Gervais offers all the beauty of a small Savoyard market town, its traditional buildings, its rich heritage, its baroque church and pedestrian areas.

Today, the Mont Blanc Tramway is one of the last rack & pinion trains in France although the locomotives are no longer steam powered. In winter it takes you to the Bellevue/Prarion ski area at 1800m, a pleasurable picturesque journey and exceptional panorama.

In summer, the Tramway takes you to the foot of the Bionnassay Glacier, the Nid d'Aigle, at an altitude of 2372 metres. From here experienced mountaineers can climb to the Tête Rousse and Goûter mountain huts, and the Mont Blanc.

The St Gervais Les Bains area
St Gervais is an all year village with great activities in the summer and winter.
There is 420km on piste skiing with 125 ski lifts! No driving from one mountain to the next just a good lunch to keep you going. if you are a foodie there are some wonderful restaurants to be found on the St Gervais slopes as well as Megeve.

St Gervais side is very tree lined and reminds me of Canada where Megeve side is more open. I've skied with beginners and off piste advanced. There's something for everyone.

Summer months are great for walking, golf courses nearby in Chamonix and Megeve, both just 30 minutes away. Megeve is good golf for couples, women or easy going golfers... very friendly. Chamonix is a bit more serious and players can get a bit short with novice golfers!

Walking is lovely... can be as extreme or gentle as you choose.
Strolling around the village is perfect for relaxation, reading a book in the church gardens and even popping down to the spa for massage and hydro therapy in pure alpine waters.
For the spa bunnies, this great review of the area is worth reading http://j.mp/kBJJwl

I think St Gervais is quaint, romantic, a step back in time.

Golf nearby in Chamonix and Megeve.
Spa treatments at Les Thermes Spa.
Summer: paragliding, fishing, swimming, horse riding, mountain biking, canyoning, rock climbing and rafting.
Winter: snow shoe hikes, Mont Blanc tramway, ski, paragliding, ice skating.
