A superb ski school will ensure you are well looked after if you decide to book tuition. With 65 kilometres of marked ski runs and some great off-piste, all abilities of skiers are well catered for. Offering Alpine quality at Bulgarian prices, it is little wonder that Bansko in Bulgaria has become a firm favourite.

Skiers of all abilities are well catered for as Bansko has over 65 kilometres of marked ski runs. These are easily accessed by the newly-installed and impressive gondola lift that takes you up to the mid-mountain area at 1,725m. From there a small network of lifts take you on to the highest point at 2,560m. At present, Bansko has a vertical drop of 1,100m – or 1,600m if you include the long, gentle coast-and-pole back to town. The final 7km is flood-lit and covered by snow-cannons.

The town centre is a listed World Heritage site and has an atmosphere of an ancient Bulgarian town from the 10th century and it is easy to see why with its quaint cobbled streets, where you can still hear the local Bansko dialect being used and the old clock tower where the bell has been measuring the hours for over 150 years. Après-ski is centred around the local “Mehanas”, friendly taverna type restaurants serving traditional Bulgarian cuisine and drinks, often with roaring log fires and live entertainment.

The area boasts a wealth of culture and history and is famous for its food specialities, drinks and live music offered in over 300 pubs, tavernas and restaurants. There are over 120 cultural monuments as well as museums, monasteries and galleries. Places to visit in and around Bansko include the Rila and Rozhen monasteries, the amphitheatre at Plovdiv, the Bear park, the medieval villages of Leshten, Kovatchevistsa and Ognianovo, the mineral baths and swimming at Banya and Dobrinishte and the Yagodinska Cave. Also, many four and five star hotels in Bansko have their own spa-wellness establishments for body, beauty and health care.

Visitors Reviews

The apartment was incredibly well equipped, superbly furnished and immaculately presented. The standard of the apartment was much higher than anticipated and I will now positively recommend it to all friends and colleagues. The people at PMS were very friendly and welcoming, very efficient and far beyond just helpful, they were a great source of information and true ambassadors of their clients. I therefore thank you for a very nice apartment at a very realistic rate and look forward to contacting you later this year with a view to booking the apartment for a week or two next year. Best regards, Graham Mentor-Morris.
